Illinois House Speak Michael Madigan call for review

House Speak Michael Madigan introduced a resolution supported by both parties for a review of the States workers' compensation program and how it applies to state employees.

The review would take a look at all claims filed by state employees from 2006-2010. The audit would include a review of settlement contracts, the procees of getting them approved, look for any fraud and control policies and procedures.

The call for review comes after a state newspaper discovered that Illinois paid almost $10,000,000 in workers' compensation benefits to 389 workers employed by a prison in southwestern Illinois.

Of the state's 32 arbitrator, 8 have also filed for or have received workers' compensation benefits.
